Today, I successfully finished painting all my mountains and was even able to start on my mountain reflections! I tried making the mountains in the back darker to push them more into the distant background. Also, to avoid making the peaks of the mountains too chalky, I added some gray to the white. In attempt to give more texture to the mountains, I used that dark gray throughout the whole mountain, painting small ridges. Next, I moved on to the water. In the picture that I was using for guidance, there was a very thin reflection of yellow in the water, so I did the same. I didn't want the water to look think, but rather glassy and fluid. So, my teacher recommended that I mix retarder with the paint. I really liked the way that turned out because it made the consistency of the paint much thinner. When I painted on the canvas, it looked a lot like water color, which was perfect. I did short horizontal strokes going down to mimic the texture of water. As for the color, I tried making the reflection the same color as the actual mountains, but less bold. I think, though, that I will need to make the reflections more gradient because that way they will look like they're fading out.
