This project was definitely different from the first project that I did. Personally I feel like I have learned a lot from doing this painting because it has forced me to paint more realistically. For example, in the ballet shoes I had to study the way the light hit it and how the shadows would affect the way they looked. For the shoes that were standing, I had to make a harsh shadows on the sides to emphasize the curve/foot position. I also had to give a strong highlight on the shoes in the middle since the light source was coming from center. As for the tights, I had to make sure that the calf area was lighter and that there was a subtle, but effective transition in the color. Lastly, to guarantee that the shoes look 3D, I added shadows on the floor, as well as reflections. I really like the effect of these because they makes the shoes pop out, instead of looking dull and flat. However, I wish that I had done those black shadows for the shoes in the center.
Another thing that I learned was the blurring effect that my teacher taught me. With the way that it turned out, I think that it makes the painting more interesting. I especially like the darker blurs because they don't blend in with the background. I think the paintbrush strokes I used for the blurs really give off the feeling of movement and fluidity, in a way. I think that through this painting, I was able to paint more freely. As I have mentioned before, my last painting felt stiff and, I guess, clustered in a sense. I really like the composition of this piece because there is a good amount of space. I like the simplicity of it and I think that it's cleaner than my first one.
Of course, there are also weak points within my piece. I think that though the colors of my painting look nice together, they weren't exactly accurate or realistic. The tights are too pink and the shoes in the center are a tad too dark and purple. If I had the chance, I would fix the shape of the shoes in the center, specifically the shoe in the back and the front leg in the center. I'd also probably go back in and make the color transition in the tights more evident and the same for all the legs. Of course with extra time I think that I could make my painting look more neat, but for what its worth, I think my piece has come together nicely!
