Today I painted the rest of the background and the legs in the middle. The color of the background isn't the same shade throughout, but I don't think it needs to be at all. As for the legs, I wanted them to be lighter and ghost-like since they are supposed to be in motion. But in looking at my painting as a whole, I saw that I didn't exactly do that... They definitely look more definite than I had wanted. In efforts to make them less solid, I actually took some of the tight color and painted some "whisps" on the background. They are not that noticeable, but I'm not sure if I want to paint thicker layers. I fear that might look odd, especially since I have this problem with overworking. My teacher taught me this one technique for painting the blurs, so I will see if that helps pull off the look I was trying to achieve.
